In 2021, it was redesigned and new features were added. LG did not change the look of its Magic Remote from 2016 to 2021. The Magic remote control communicates with the TV using bluetooth. You can also use this remote control to control the TV by voice. Its principle of operation is similar to that of a computer mouse. This remote control, in addition to switching channels, helps to visualize the TV control. A universal remote control, LG calls it Magic Remote control.LG makes two types of remote controls for TVs. #Lg magic remote wake up Ps4I'm particularly interested in experiences with the B8 OLED, the PS4 as the source, and maybe one of those fancy Vizio Atmos sound bars as the audio system.Compatibility of Magic Remote Controls with LG TV models Types LG remote control Please please please leave a comment with your results and make/model of source, TV, and audio components. Press-and-hold the Home button on the Apple TV remote, and select "Sleep." Pick up the Apple TV remote and press any button. Post a comment with the make and model of TV you have. If you're absolutely, positively, dead confident that you've done this, then you don't have the problem I'm talking about here. If your TV turned off (and you're certain it's off, like you can see the standby light), probably you've not covered the IR window on the Apple remote completely. The OLED should stay on and display a "No Signal" message. Press-and-hold the Home button the Apple TV remote, and select "Sleep." The Apple TV and the OLED should power on. Pick up the Apple TV remote, and press any button. Turn "Control TVs and Receivers" on (Settings->Remotes and Devices)Įnable HDMI ARC and CEC and whetever else you need to get ARC working (I'm using a sound bar where ARC and CEC are always enabled, so you're on your own here). Tape over the IR window on the front of the Siri Remote, or put the remote in a different room and use your iPhone control app (IR commands from the Siri Remote will cause inaccurate test results). LG Sound Bar (or other HDMI ARC sound system, like a Vizio sound bar) LG OLED B7P (or other LG webOS-based Smart TV)Īpple TV 4K (or other source device supporting HDMI CEC, like a PS4) The Experiment: I'd like to find out if this solution works on other setups (a B8 OLED instead of a B7, a PS4 instead of an Apple TV, or a Vizio sound bar instead of an LG). I have verified this with an LG OLED B7P, an Apple TV 4K, an LG Sound Bar, and a Yamaha receiver. The Solution: I've found that connecting a sound bar or receiver over ARC solves the problem. The Problem: Some LG TVs (including the B7 OLED I have) will turn on when a source turns on, but will not turn off when the source turns off. Finish using the Apple TV, everything turns off. The Dream: Press buttons on the Apple TV remote, everything turns on. Please leave a comment if this works for you, including the model of TV you have. TL DR: If you use HDMI CEC ("Simplink") and your LG TV will not turn off when a source device turns off, try using ARC instead of Optical for audio output.
